Sun Prairie Yogi of the Month: Dawn Peterson

How did you get started at Dfly?
I was in a place mentally and physically where I needed to feel better. I have 3 boys, and I want to be able to play with them and be around for them for a long time. I quit my job last year to stay home with my kids. My incredible husband had taken some classes at Dfly. He encouraged me to make some healthy goals, including going with him to a Dfly class. I fell in love with how the yoga and community made me feel.

What was your yoga/BarreAmped experience before Dfly?
I had done some yoga at home with various beginner videos. I had also done mindfulness classes, but honestly did not have much yoga experience before Dfly.

What do you enjoy most from attending Dfly classes?
The variety! I love that I can go to Flow or Yoga Up or Yin and hit on different areas of my physical and mental health.

Have you experienced any changes in your total well-being since taking classes?
Absolutely! I have chronic migraines, and I’ve found Dfly classes are one important aspect of helping me keep my muscles stretched out in such a way to keep my migraines at bay! I also have increased strength, flexibility, and energy.

How often do you attend classes? Favorite class?
I like to attend 5-7 classes a week but that varies as my family schedule fluctuates. Some weeks I can only come 1-2 times. It’s hard to pick a fav class, but I really enjoy Flow & Yin because I get both in one class. That said, I just tried Circut Up which was really fun and super challenging.

Please feel free to share any other thoughts you have about Dfly, hot yoga, or your life as we would love to know more about you.
I love to travel and visit the beach. I recently got to check off my top bucket list item of going to Hawaii! We also like going to Disney World as a family and absolutely love Disney Cruises. It’s been fun getting to know more yogis and feel welcomed coming to classes. So, if you see me please feel free to say “Hi.” I’d love to chat.

Middleton Yogi of the Month: Angela Rachidi

How did you get started at Dfly?
In 2017, my family and I had just moved to Middleton and we welcomed baby #4. I was more than ready for some fitness options! My husband bought me a month pass to Dragonfly as a gift after I suggested I might like to get back into yoga. I had no idea Dragonfly had such amazing fitness classes too. After my first Power Up class, I was hooked.

What was your yoga/barre experience before Dfly?
I have always worked out and kept myself fit. But before Dfly, I mostly did individual work – going to the gym and running on my own. I quickly learned how much I enjoy the energy and challenge of doing classes. Now, Dfly is my main fitness regime.

What do you enjoy most from attending Dfly classes?
I love the mental break that classes give me from my work and home life. And I love the physical challenge. The instructors are fantastic. They take so much time and care to put together fun and worthwhile classes. I appreciate them so much!

Have you experienced any changes in your total well-being since taking classes?
Absolutely. After about six months of doing Up classes, my physique changed and my fitness level improved. I also found classes to be a great stress-reliever. I have been doing Up classes consistently for almost five years (including OnDemand during the COVID months). I am as healthy and fit as I have ever been.

How often do you attend classes? Favorite class?
I know Dfly is known for its yoga classes, but I really enjoy the fitness classes. I take 3-5 Up classes per week. My favorites are Circuit Up and Power Up. There are so many great instructors, but Shawn’s Circuit Up is a favorite of mine, and so are Pam, Ashley, and Carrie’s Power Up classes.

Please feel free to share any other thoughts you have about Dfly, hot yoga, or your life as we would love to know more about you.
I have four kids between the ages 5 to 11, a job that keeps me pretty busy, and a household to manage. Exercise has always been a big part of my life, but Dfly has been a life saver. I set up my schedule to accommodate Up classes. They give me energy to keep up with my kids and my active lifestyle, and the classes help keep me sane. I love everything about Dfly!

Instructor Ashley Bruckner “Angela comes regularly to my Power Up class and is definitely one of the strongest in the room. I love that she always takes the more challenging option and pushes herself all the way to the end.”

Fitchburg Yogi of the Month: Lindsay Wicktor

I started at Dfly after it opened because I was so curious about the “hot” portion of hot yoga. I had never sweat so much in any workout I’d ever done, as I did in my first hot yoga class!

In college I did a free yoga class, at the University of Minnesota. There were hundreds of students. And hundreds of bare feet. (So you can get the rest of the story! The guy in front of me was wearing rather see through running shorts, so when we went to do our first downward facing dog, the 75+ people behind me could not stop laughing). It took me years to recover from this experience! When I moved the Madison I started yoga with a veteran yogi in Verona. She taught each pose and was a stickler about form. This is when my love for yoga started.

I love the guaranteed sweat and opportunity to challenge and strengthen my body. I am stronger and more flexible, and my balance is better. Yoga does amazing things for my mental health too!

I attend 2-5 classes a week. My favorites are flow/core flow, yoga up, and power up. I have recently tried yin (I prefer to move, so yin is a challenge for me!) and I must admit, it’s pretty great!

I’m a mom of two kids and two chocolate labs. I’m a nanny to three other littles and three dogs. At home we refer to hot yoga as “hoga/oga/yoga (my son calls it hoga, one of my friends calls it oga) and my kids ask me daily if I am going! It seems as if they have noticed that I arrive home in a better mood! I adore going to class because, someone tells me what to do! It’s the only time during my day that I think only about what I am doing!

Dfly is a warm, welcoming, knowledgeable yoga community. It’s a guarantee that I will leave Dfly, feeling better than I did when I arrived!

Instructor Tiffany Geier: “Lindsay is the perfect choice for Fitchburg’s YOM! She is a dedicated member who practices with quiet strength and focus. Lindsay takes many of our UP classes at Dragonfly, but she balances out her experience and practice by sprinkling in flows, and yins. Lindsay leads and motivates those around her with an approachable demeanor, and dry sense of humor. I absolutely love having Lindsay in class, as she continues to teach me the meaning of commitment and patience. Congrats Lindsay!!”

Downtown Yogi of the Month: Carly Edge

How did you get started at Dfly?
I moved back to Madison in early 2021 and was interested in joining a fitness community and getting back into hot yoga. As things started opening back up after COVID, I gave DFLY a try. I instantly loved it!

I also had a goal for myself to close my rings on my Apple Watch everyday for a year. DFLY helped me close my rings and reach my goal. I am now at 491 days in a row for closing all my rings!

What was your yoga/Barre experience before Dfly?
I used to do hot yoga 3-4 times a week when I was in college. After college I moved away from Madison for work and did not continue my practice because I could not find a studio I loved.

That’s why I was so excited when I moved back to Madison, because I could join the Dfly community.

What do you enjoy most from attending Dfly classes?
I love the hot room, it’s such a good feeling to get a sweat in. I also love the community that comes along with Dfly. It’s the teachers and people that keep me coming back each week. :)

Have you experienced any changes in your total well-being since taking classes?
Before I started doing yoga regularly, I would get really bad headaches and upper back pain from sitting in front of a computer screen all day. After about 2-3mo of attending yoga classes my upper back pain went away and I now get fewer headaches. I am also more confident in myself and my overall mental health has greatly improved. I look forward to yoga and treat it as “me” time.

How often do you attend classes? Favorite class?
I try to attend classes at least 3 times a week. My favorite class is Power Up with Brooklyn :) I also really enjoy Yoga Up classes.

Please feel free to share any other thoughts you have about Dfly, hot yoga, or your life as we would love to know more about you.
I love the Dfly community, I feel that everyone is so supportive of each other and works to keep each other accountable. I am so lucky to be able to work remotely and be back in Madison (the city I love the most) and be a part of the Dfly community.
