Sun Prairie Yogi of the Month: Kay Arnold

How did you get started at Dfly?
I decided to try Dfly on a recommendation from a friend at work. She assured me that Dfly is a very friendly and un-intimidating community so I decided to give it try. Besides, the ‘hot” part really intrigued me. I went first as a guest with my friend, then I signed up for the introductory offer. I tried several different classes, but fell in love with Flow, Slow Flow, and Yin. The yoga teachers were very responsive to my needs, always willing to help with any questions I had. After the first month, I knew I found what I was looking for, so I became a member. That was three years ago!

What is/was your yoga/BarreAmped experience before Dfly?
Before Dfly, I had very little yoga experience. I did take a few classes at YMCA, and went along with family and friends to their classes, but I wasn’t drawn to it. I wasn’t convinced that Yoga would give me what I thought I needed.

What do you enjoy most from attending Dfly classes?
Besides the classes, the most surprising and enjoyable part of attending Dfly is meeting so many nice people, who I now call my friends. I look forward to seeing them at class, and sometimes they are the motivation I need to roll out my mat. The staff at Dfly are so inviting and friendly, too. And I do love the HOT of Dfly!

Have you experienced any changes in your total well-being since taking classes?
I started yoga mostly to improve my balance and flexibility. But, I soon found that yoga truly is a full body/mind “work-out” that builds strength, endurance and mobility, as well as cardio. I am definitely stronger, especially in my core. I am able to bend, kneel, and reach so much more flexibly. Because of these gains, I feel so much more confident to do physical activities and attempt those yoga poses I would have never thought I could at the beginning of my yoga journey. All those little aches and pain and stiffness disappears, too. But most importantly, consistent yoga practice helps me feel happy and more focused which helps me to be present and mindful. Life, and all its complexities, seems just a little easier to deal with when there is yoga in my life.

How often do you attend classes? Favorite class?
I usually attend 3-4 classes per week. I can’t pick a favorite because every class brings something different and new to my practice. The teachers keep the classes interesting and provide me the opportunity to challenge myself.

Please feel free to share any other thoughts you have about Dfly, hot yoga, or your life as we would love to know more about you.
I do so appreciate Dfly – Sun Prairie’s staff for creating a safe and fun environment in which I am able to push myself to try new poses and continue to “strive for progress, not perfection”.

How did you get started at Dfly?
I got started at Dragonfly years ago (don’t remember when) then stopped for a bit then restarted in Jan of 2020. I did the online classes much of COVID.

What is/was your yoga/barreamped experience before Dfly? What do you enjoy most from attending Dfly classes?
I have attended some other yoga classes in Waunakee before Dragonfly. I really enjoy the instructors at Dragonfly. I also love the “hot” and the ability to challenge myself, or not. The classes offer nice modifications. I feel very comfortable as there are all different people and ability levels in the classes. It is an opportunity to just focus on myself for that time. The cool towels at the end are the best reward!

How often do you attend classes? Favorite class?
I feel the classes have helped me focus on myself and my health. I have noticed and increase in strength, balance, focus and wellbeing. Classes have become a priority for me. I feel overall better when I attend. I try to attend classes at least 5 times/ week. My favorite classes are the flow classes, but I do love the aromatherapy yin too!

In the fall I will be going back to teaching 1st grade, so no more 9 am classes, but I will try to go to evening classes as much as possible (weekends too!). I will still keep yoga a priority, as I feel better for it. I enjoy coming to Dragonfly as much as possible. It is an easy and quick transit from Waunakee, where I live. My daughter, future son-in law, and future daughter in law are all members too and love it. I am working on my son and others to join. I know they will love it too!

Instructor Anna Lindstrom: “Amie is like a ray of sunshine every time she comes into the studio. Her spirit for learning and growth is evident in her practice… and she always does it with a smile. She radiates positivity and kindness. I will miss her on Thursday mornings when she returns this fall to her very important work of teaching our young people. (Lucky kids!)”

Fitchburg Yogi of the Month: Amy Buzza

How did you get started at Dfly?
I started at Dragonfly on the urging of my daughter after she had attended a hot yoga class. She took me to a flow in the mild room at Middleton. Although at the time I would have told you it was the hot room. Then during my trial period, I took as many different types of classes as possible that would fit into my schedule that month and enjoyed them all. I became a member and started my yoga journey.

What was your yoga/barreamped experience before Dfly? What do you enjoy most from attending Dfly classes?
Many years before I came to Dragonfly, I tried a few yoga classes offered through the daycare my children attended. The classes were an activity but didn’t have an impact on my lifestyle. The Dfly community is such a supportive group of people. I enjoy the welcoming environment and positive energy in every class.

Have you experienced any changes in your total well-being since taking classes?/ How often do you attend classes? Favorite class?
I call Dragonfly my “happy place”. I look forward to the 45 or 60 minutes I’ve set aside to focus on me, whether it is a personal fitness goal I’m trying to reach in a Yoga Up / Power Up class or time to focus on breathing and movement in a yoga class. I come out of every class feeling de-stressed and accomplished. I attend four to five classes a week mostly at the Fitchburg location. I really can’t pick a favorite class, which is a great part of Dfly. I enjoy the variety, but if I had to choose currently, core flow, Yoga Up and Power Up would be at the top of my list. However, if you asked me on a different day my favorite classes might be Barre, power flow, and aroma yin.

I found that the temperature of the class really helps me focus on being present, making it much easier to block out all other distractions. Over the past year, with the unpredictable way life has been changing, Dragonfly classes were a constant, even if it was outside in the studio parking lot, online or masked up in the studio. I am grateful to be part of this community.

Instructor Tiffany Geier: “Amy is the perfect choice for Fitchburg’s YOM! She is a dedicated and inspirational member as she does the work with strength, focus and grace. Amy takes many of our UP classes at Dragonfly, but she balances out her experience and practice by sprinkling in flows and yins. Amy leads and motivates those around her, and I especially enjoy seeing Amy practice next to and with her daughter! I absolutely love having Amy in class, as she continues to teach me the meaning of commitment and compassion. Congrats Amy!!”

How did you get started at Dfly?
I wish I knew the exact answer as to how I got started at Dragonfly, but I think I was at a standstill with my fitness routine and wanted a space and place that would be consistent for me so I tried some classes at Dfly and never looked back!

What was your yoga/BarreAmped experience before Dfly?
I did a fair amount of barre but only dabbled in yoga and never did hot yoga. Regular yoga never did it for me; I found myself letting my mind wander and not getting the benefits of a yoga practice. It wasn’t until I went to a HOT yoga class that I realized how much I loved that style of yoga practice.

What do you enjoy most from attending Dfly classes?
I enjoy the ability to attend many different kinds of classes throughout the week that fit in with my schedule the way I want them to. Also, I love that so many of the teachers have such different styles of teaching but they all make their class welcoming and encouraging.

Have you experienced any changes in your total well-being since taking classes?
There have been so many times where I go to class and it takes every fiber of my being to get there because I’m not in a good mental place for whatever reason. Every single time I’m done with class when I feel like that, I am in such a new and rejuvenated mental place — it’s incredible!

How often do you attend classes? Favorite class?
I attend classes about five to six times a week. I’m not just saying this, but I love all types of the classes, but I’ve especially started to appreciate the Flow and Yin classes because I like the ability to get a quick flow in and then deepen my stretching.

I am so thankful for this community! COVID really took a hit to my mental state and having livestream classes as resources were great, and the feeling I got when I walked back into the studio after studios reopened is happiness I can’t really describe. Thankful for my DFly community!
