Fitchburg Yogi of the Month: Sonia Sieben

I started going to Dragonfly in August of 2011, the first summer you were open. I first heard of Dragonfly through my daughter and her friend who both wanted to try it as well. I was intrigued, so I tried it too and I have been hooked ever since. I remember driving home after my first class thinking, “I feel amazing and I am already hooked!”

Before Dragonfly, I had very little experience with yoga. Over 10 years ago I took a 6 week course at the YMCA. I really enjoyed it and found that it helped with some lower back pain I had been experiencing after my 3rd child but was never able to find the time to pursue it any further.

Middleton Yogi of the Month: Jay Weatherford

Jay was looking for an activity to compliment his cycling and some of his cycling friends mentioned that yoga was a great way to increase core strength and flexibility. This led Jay to Dragonfly to get more information on classes as Yoga was something new for him.

Jay: I have absolutely NO previous yoga experience. It took me about a month after stopping by for information before I finally worked up the nerve to sign up for a class. It can be a little intimidating for a guy initially but that goes away after 1 or 2 visits. The entire staff at Dragonfly has been wonderfully accommodating and inspiring.

Free to Breathe Yogathon Recap

When I was invited to participate in Free To Breathe Yogathon via Dragonfly Hot Yoga (which took place on February 23 at Union South), I was thrilled to volunteer my time representing our wonderful community and for such a great cause. I didn’t realize however, how very few survivors of lung cancer there were. Out of the 300 participants, there were only 5 survivors. “If you have lungs, you can get lung cancer.” It takes the most lives out ALL the cancers combined.

As I walked around assisting, I saw so many names printed with a candle next to it, representing the loved ones lost. It was hard not to get teary eyed. Many were doing Yoga for the first time ever and you could feel the tremendous support they gave each other. Some came in groups, some in trios and pairs, but altogether the common thread was the dedication of love, strength, and lots of courage.

Middleton Yogi of the Month: Susan LeGrand Levine

Susan began this journey when her daughter gave her a yoga mat and a Dragonfly 10 Class pass for Christmas…

I was a total beginner before Dragonfly. In October, a friend of mine kept asking me to join her at Dragonfly but I could not imagine doing yoga in a hot room and sweating…I kept saying thanks, but no thanks, even though the tea room sounded intriguing. After Melissa gave me the Christmas present, I threw caution to the wind. I try to keep an open heart to new ideas, so I mustered up my courage and came in for a 5:30 am Flow class with Suki in the beginning of January. In September I attended a meditation conference in the beautiful Rocky Mountains in Colorado….the keynote suggested to me that yoga would be a wonderful enhancing addition to my meditation practice. Never did I imagine what was waiting for me at Dragonfly!
