Sun Prairie Yogi of the Month: Tara Klun

How did you get started at Dfly?
I was in the process of building a house and staying in an apartment near the studio during the time of construction. Also during this time, my mom was going through cancer treatment, so needless to say it was a very stressful time in my life. I was going to Prairie Athletic Club, but was looking for something additional to try and help alleviate the stress. Given DFly was so close, I gave it a try and became hooked.

What is/was your yoga/BarreAmped experience before Dfly?
I grew up a dancer, so I have always been passionate about health and fitness, however, I was more focused on the cardio and strength side of things. I tried a few different yoga studios, but never really got excited about it. It wasn’t until my experience at DFly that I became passionate about yoga.

What do you enjoy most from attending Dfly classes?
The energy from both the community and instructors.

Have you experienced any changes in your total well-being since taking classes?
I am a firm believer that hot yoga helps detoxify your body. Flushing my body of toxins leaves me feeling refreshed and reenergized. I have also been able to maintain flexibility as I age, I have increased my cardio vascular fitness and reduced stress. Because of all these benefits, I also noticed I rarely get sick anymore.

How often do you attend classes? Favorite class?
I try to attend as much as possible, but on average 4 days a week with double classes every Saturday. Honestly, I love all the classes DFly has to offer. They each have their own unique benefit. A few of my top favorites include Meghan’s 75 minute flow on Sundays-she is always offering a challenge or a new arm balance to try and I love that! But the energy and overall workout you get from Erica’s Power Up is tough to beat.

A Madison native, I started dancing when I was 4 years old. As part of the Wisconsin Dance Ensemble I performed at the Civic Center (totally dating myself here) in The Nutcracker from the time I was six all the way to 18 – performing everything from Bon Bon to Waltz of the Flower. I continued dance as I attended UW Madison. A current resident of Sun Prairie, I am a very busy working mom of two (12 and 14 years old). My kids are involved in basketball, baseball, softball and football and they all seem to overlap. With such a busy life I am so very thankful for DFly. It is a place I can go and take time for me. Spending that 45-75 minutes on my mat helps keep me grounded and gives me the energy and positivity to tackle the challenges life brings, while proving an amazing total body workout.

Middleton Yogi of the Month: Lauren Morey

How did you get started at Dfly?
I had passed by the studio so many times, was intrigued and thought, “I should check that out.” So on Mother’s Day in 2015 I treated myself to a trial class of Power Up and was immediately hooked!

What is/was your yoga/barreamped experience before Dfly?
Pretty much zero! I had been to a yoga class at another local studio, but it just didn’t feel right…it felt like I was clearly the new person. It just wasn’t a welcoming atmosphere so I never went back.

What do you enjoy most from attending Dfly classes?
I love the energy in the classes and the inspiration and motivation from both the instructors as well as the students. From the moment you enter the door, you are warmly greeted and everyone is so welcoming and positive. In addition, it never gets boring! The variety of classes, the difference in teaching styles keeps it so fun.

Have you experienced any changes in your total well-being since taking classes?
Absolutely! Every class is a stress reducer and helps challenge me mentally and physically. I can now do poses I wasn’t able to when I started, my weights have increased and my burpee count during Tabata has gone up:)

How often do you attend classes? Favorite class?
I typically attend 3-4 classes a week. Hands down my favorite is Power Up. It is challenging enough to really test you mentally and physically but manageable enough that you aren’t (completely) dying! The classroom has so much energy and you can really feel the support from everyone around you. A very close second is Yin, even though it is the total opposite. It really forces me to slow down from a busy life and focus on the moment and myself.

If you are on the fence about checking Dragonfly out you definitely should. The best thing about it is how welcoming everyone is – there are all different fitness levels and body shapes but there is zero judgement and only positive attitudes surrounding you. I feel truly blessed to have the opportunity to have a place like it where I can better myself mentally, emotionally and physically all while being surrounded by such inspiring and strong individuals. It’s impossible to not leave feeling immensely better than when you walked in.

Instructor Pam Fox: “Lauren is such a joy to have in class!! I love that she challenges herself & really makes fitness & living a healthy lifestyle a priority in her life! Even the other members in the class love working out next to her because of her motivation and intensity! Well-earned Yogi of the month!”

Fitchburg Yogi of the Month: Kyle Anderson

How did you get started at Dfly?
I am a rather “shy” person (being an Aspie), and my first year of practicing Yoga was done in my home. So I took a leap and signed up to both expand my practice, and also challenge myself to get out of my bubble. Dragonfly’s philosophy of Yoga for every shape, every size, every person really spoke to me. Being someone who had struggled with their weight (up until very recently) and self-image (WIP), I thought, this is the place I want to try!

What is/was your yoga/barreamped experience before Dfly?
I became interested in Yoga listening to a book in which one of the characters was a Yogi. I was failing to find a good way to exercise at home at the time and thought “hmm… Yoga? Haven’t tried that. A mat is only $35 on Amazon? Weights are how much during the pandemic!?! Ok, so yeah, let’s try yoga!”
So, I downloaded an app, rolled out my new mat and did a 15-minute flow. I was very, VERY out of shape and 50 lbs heavier than I am today, so that 15 minutes routine kicked my rear… but I loved it. I absolutely loved it. I spent the coming weeks working my way up to 60 minute practices, and celebrated by getting a fancier mat (that I still use today and adore, we’re besties). I continued to practice an hour a day from home until I moved to DFLY on my 1-year anniversary of practicing.

What do you enjoy most from attending Dfly classes?
The community, the staff & instructors (seriously, y’all rock), and the heat (95 degrees, let’s go!). Everyone is always so fun, kind, and inspirational. I love to look around and see what everyone else is trying; see how they work their modifications and manage their pace. It’s inspiring and I continue to learn so much from those around me. I love pushing to the edge… and falling past it.

Have you experienced any changes in your total well-being since taking classes?
Gosh yes, so many changes. I feel stronger, more flexible, and just all around healthier, both mentally and physically. I’ve always been a focused person, but also impatient at times. I am far more patient these days, especially with myself and my own practice. I deal with chronic pain, and Yoga has helped make it far more manageable with the daily stretching and conditioning.

How often do you attend classes? Favorite class?
I would go daily if work wasn’t work, but I still manage to get in 6-7 practices a week on average. Did I mention I love yoga!?! I’ve loved every class I’ve taken, including the one Yoga Up I did with Tiffany (where I was pretty sure I was going to die!). My favs are standard flow and power but I try to mix in as many different as I can. Oh, and I intend to give Up a go again soon. ;)

If you’re like I was– reading these articles to decide if you should try DFLY, just do it — you won’t be sorry. I didn’t think I’d like the heat, but I, and my muscles, absolutely love it. I wasn’t sure I’d fit in, but immediately felt welcomed and a part of the community. DFLY has become my second home.
As for a ‘lil about me, I am an Expert+ Beat Saber player, a big video/board gaming nerd, and I enjoy baking and making homemade pizza from scratch (I’ll never turn down pizza — sorry tummy). Also, I’m excited, and a ‘bit’ terrified, to be enrolled in the Yoga Teacher Training this spring.

Instructor Kay Lera: “Kyle is a dedicated Yogi and he shows up on his mat as often as he can. He brings a quiet, cheerful presence to our DFlY community and, at the same time, he fearlessly seeks answers to soulful questions. Kyle has made everyone at Dfly better- just by showing up on his mat!”
