A few of my friends attended classes at another Dragonfly location. I was interested, but didn’t want to drive that far. When I saw advertisements that the Sun Prairie studio was opening, I stopped in and signed up for a membership during the grand opening. For the first few months, I only took the Aroma Yin classes. I slowly added in other classes. The next class I added and stuck with was BarreAmped. I am working on adding more “new to me” classes.
Prior to starting at Dfly, I took some free Lunchtime Yoga classes at the Monona Terrace. The classes were similar to Yin but without the heat. A majority of the classes were in a room facing Lake Monona. This was an encouraging experience and aided in loosening up some of my tight muscles. I also took a community recreation core yoga course, which left me a bit discouraged.
Eight months ago (Nov 2015), I tried a yoga flow class at Dragonfly. It was a life-altering experience. I began an amazing cleanse of my body, mind and spirit. Ever since, I have regularly attended classes. I enjoy the amazing heated room, the challenging poses, the wonderful music, the positive learning environment and the strength and wisdom of the instructors. I also go to different types of classes such as Barreamped, Yoga Up and Yin.
Yoga has changed me. I feel more balanced, alive and well. It has completely changed my perspective of working out, as it is no longer a chore. I am more aware of sensing a connection of mind to body. I am strengthening more refined musculature, as well as making fuller use of main muscle groups.
I was a long distance runner all through high school and off and on during my 20s. When I tried to pick it up again at the age of 29, my knees were shot. I was struggling with pain, swelling and difficulty doing simple things like crouching down and standing up – and I was only 30! Months of physical therapy did not help and eventually I was told this was just what my physical ability was going to be like from now on. I was upset about gaining weight and feeling betrayed by my body that was so limited at the age of 30. A coworker encouraged me to try the intro month at Dragonfly and I was immediately hooked. More than a year and a half later, I’m more flexible, stronger and guess what – no more knee pain or difficulty doing simple things like turning, crouching or dancing. :)
I started going to Dragonfly Hot Yoga when the new downtown location opened. Since I moved back downtown, Dfly was a convenient location. I immediately realized Dfly was my new yoga studio and started a membership. I have been practicing yoga for about 10 years, but I only started taking classes at a studio 3 years ago. Hot yoga classes were my first classes at a studio, and I knew I was hooked.
