I have been practicing yoga with Dragonfly since 2012. Running has always been my own personal source of therapy and outlet for me, but when I suffered a foot injury earlier in the year, I needed an alternate fitness option. I had little experience with yoga, but I heard a radio ad for a new hot yoga studio in Fitchburg, and decided to give it a try — for both my physical and emotional well-being. I wasn’t sure what to expect from my first class, but I am so glad I went!

I enjoy everything about Dragonfly and I absolutely love the heat! The instructors are fabulous, the studio is cozy, and I always feel welcome. Going to yoga classes has become my ‘me’ time and I look forward to it. Yoga has truly inspired me to take care of myself while expanding my overall well-being.

Since joining Dragonfly, I have experienced significant gains in my physical fitness. I feel the strongest I ever have. I can do push-ups and pull ups for the first time in my life. I have had no running related injuries either since I started practicing. I am reminded to ‘live in the present’ when I attend class, and am trying to incorporate that mantra into my everyday life. Focusing on the present has helped me get through some tough times, as well as enjoy the simple moments in life that sometimes I take for granted. The breath-work I learned in yoga also helped significantly with the labor and delivery of my daughter last year!

My first class was yin, but my favorite class is Power Up with Katie Monk. I really enjoy the Flow and Slow Flow classes as well. I would love to teach yoga someday!

Instructor Katie Monk: “I love having Heather in my Power Up class each week! She is such a strong, fierce and dedicated student; Heather takes it upon herself to amplify without prompting and has the self-awareness to know when she needs to do so. I know she inspires others around her, but especially new students, with her calm demeanor and commitment to the workout each week. Congratulations to Heather, you’re an inspiration to me and your fellow Power Uppers!”
