Matt D.

How did you get started at Dfly?
I got started at Dragonfly in 2017. I did most of my classes at the no longer existent Sun Prairie location. Now I get most of my mat time at the East location.

What was your yoga/barre experience before Dfly?
Before Dragonfly, I had maybe done 1-2 classes in my entire life. None of which were heated classes. I could barely touch my toes when I started!

What do you enjoy most from attending Dfly classes?
Mostly, I enjoy getting my A$% beat in the heat and coming out on the other side with an unmistakable mental clarity. I enjoy the “zone” that I can get into. When the challenge of the pose, movement, and environment melts away, and I feel totally in control of my mind/body connection.

Have you experienced any changes in your total well-being since taking classes?
Yes! Not too long ago, I was experiencing very bad lower back issues. It truly put me down and out for several months, and I began to doubt if I’d ever be able to exercise at the levels I was once used to. After getting it under control with the help of my doctor and physical therapy, regular Dfly classes have helped me strengthen my core and lumbar spine to the point where I now feel back to the levels I did before the injury occurred.

How often do you attend classes? Favorite class?
I usually attend 3-4 classes a week. I like to do a mix of core or power Flows + Yoga Up. I love the variety that the different teachers bring to their practices. Special shout-outs to Nichole, Jensen, Sydney, Maya, Christina, and Meredith. Coming to their morning and lunchtime classes has been a treat!

Please feel free to share any other thoughts you have about Dfly, hot yoga, or your life as we would love to know more about you.
As someone who has always been active, it’s tough to get older and not be able to shake things off as easily as I once did. The luxury of being able to get past small aches and pains in a day or two does not, in fact, last forever. My Dfly regimen has helped me in many ways turn back the clock, and has allowed me to work out in a way that both challenges and rejuvenates my mind and body. Apart from the time on the mat, It’s always a treat to come to the East location and be greeted with such warmth and excitement by teachers who love what they do.

Instructor Nichole V.: “Matt is such a great student to have in class. He always brings positive energy, a fun attitude, and a willingness to work hard and challenge himself. His consistency and upbeat personality make him a joy to teach and a big part of what makes the class environment so special.”
