How did you get started at Dfly?
I had been interested in getting back into my yoga practice and finally decided to take the leap in February of 2024. I tried a bunch of classes with my week pass to try to pick a single class to attend. After that week I decided to sign up as a member, because I couldn’t pick just one to attend!
What was your yoga/barre experience before Dfly?
I had mostly practiced during college and graduate school through group fitness classes. I had a friend who taught a couple nights a week at UW when I was in grad school. During the pandemic, I worked on my home practice, but was really missing the community feel of taking classes.
What do you enjoy most from attending Dfly classes?
I love the sense of community of the studio and the fact that all instructors encourage you to take what you need from practice. Everyone I’ve encountered has been so supportive and kind. I feel like I’m given the space to focus totally on self care and being present.
Have you experienced any changes in your total well-being since taking classes?
I have noticed changes in mobility and flexibility as well as an overall change in my mental well-being. I lift weights 4 times a week and have noticed how my practice at Dfly really compliments and improves my workouts. I’ve really learned how to stop judging myself if a pose or exercise is too challenging or not accessible for me, and to start listening to my body and celebrating all it can do.
How often do you attend classes? Favorite class?
I try to go 3 times a week, and love the slow flow classes! Jodi and Angela’s Slow Flow 60 classes in the evenings during the week help me wind down and relax after busy works days, and Brenda’s Fire Slow Flow class on Saturday is the perfect weekend challenge. I love how slow flow challenges both your mind and body, and I always feel strong leaving class.
Please feel free to share any other thoughts you have about Dfly, hot yoga, or your life as we would love to know more about you.
I work as a medical physicist in radiation oncology, which can make for some long and stressful days. I’m thankful to have Dfly as a place to decompress from my day. When I’m not practicing yoga, you can find me hiking, baking, taking walks around our neighborhood in Waunakee, reading mystery/ thriller books, or relaxing on the couch with my husband and two cats watching TV. I’m so thankful I took a chance and joined Dfly! If you’re on the fence I highly recommend giving it a chance. There truly is a class for everyone here, and it’s been an amazing community to be a part of!
Instructor Jodi K.: “I always love seeing Autumn at the studio, whether it’s for my class or in a class we are both taking. She is always so warm and kind. I also admire Autumn’s dedication to her practice. People like Autumn who have a consistent positive presence at Dragonfly help to make Dragonfly feel like a welcoming place to be!”
