My Teaching Style

Together, we will explore various dimensions of the yoga practice as defined by Hatha Yoga, a school of thought that emerged on the Indian-subcontinent during the Vedic period approximately 5,000 years ago. This includes, but is not limited to, Asana (postures), Pranayama (exploration of breath), Mantra (instruments of sound), Mudra (gestures), Dharana (concentration), Dhyana (meditation), and Nidra (sleep). As pertains to Asana, I aspire to guide each student to a place of heightened self-awareness through precise physical cues. By teetering between static alignment and fluidity, we aim to cultivate an equanimous state of mind. We will also explore principles from the Vinyasa, Yin, and Ashtanga modalities.

I love working all levels of students, and strive to bring together people from all walks of life through yoga. I am passionate about creating inclusive movement spaces for all abilities, body types, races, ages, genders, and self-expressions.

Experience

I first practiced yoga at the age of 15 after my time as a competitive gymnastics was ending, but I did not become serious about yoga practice until age 20 when I began to grasp the level of precision and detail associated with the discipline. Since, I have explored Vinyasa, Bikram, Hatha, Hot, Yin, Ashtanga, Kundalini before deciding to deepen my knowledge through a teacher training in 2020, and have been teaching regularly since. Other modalities of movement I enjoy include: running, biking, swimming, triathlons, hiking, qi gong, dance, and weight lifting, and am happy to have conversations with you about yoga's intersection of these.

In addition to the United States, I am grateful to have had opportunities to study and share yoga in Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and India. I am currently a Masters of Social Work student at UW Madison with a concentration in clinical social work.

Favorite Pose

Sukasana, or any of its variations - All parts of the practice prepare us for this posture.

Favorite Quote

“Identity would seem to be the garment with which one covers the nakedness of the self: in which case, it is best that the garment be loose, a little like the robes of the desert, through which one’s nakedness can always be felt, and, sometimes, discerned. This trust in one's nakedness is all that gives one the power to change one’s robes.”
– James Baldwin

Why I Love Dragonfly

I began teaching at Dragonfly in 2022. I learn an endless amount of wisdom from the community of practitioners and teachers. The amount of dedication from the students is immensely impressive to watch--some have been with the studio for over a decade! I feel as if I have grown through Dragonfly and have loved watching it change over the years.

Little Known Fact About Me

I can invert my upper eyelids! Only ask to see it if you have a strong stomach...it's pretty gross.
