Beatrice K. | Dragonfly Hot Yoga Madison WI

Beatrice K.

How did you get started at Dfly?
I moved to a rural area southwest of Madison just over a year ago and was looking for a new yoga studio. One of my coworkers recommended Dragonfly, and I haven’t looked back!

What was your yoga/barre experience before Dfly?
I first dabbled in yoga while studying theater in college in Milwaukee, but I didn’t begin practicing consistently until I moved to Spring Green after graduation for a job opportunity. There, I found Rural Remedy Yoga, where I built the foundation of my practice over the next few years.

In 2023, a new career opportunity brought me to Madison’s east side, just five minutes from Main Street Yoga Center. I took full advantage of that and attended classes most days of the week. Both Rural Remedy and Main Street Yoga Center emphasized the mind-body connection and proper alignment, which gave me an incredible foundation to continue growing my practice when I joined Dragonfly.

What do you enjoy most about attending Dfly classes?
I love the challenge. Yoga is just as much a mental practice as it is a physical one, and it’s one of the few places where I can completely disconnect from the outside world. Before Dragonfly, I had never practiced in a heated room, and now I absolutely love it.

I also appreciate the judgment-free environment that every instructor helps create. Whether I want to make a sequence more challenging, scale it back, or take a variation that’s different from everyone else, I always feel comfortable doing what’s best for my body.

Have you experienced any changes in your overall well-being since taking classes?
The more I practice yoga, the more my body craves it. If I go more than a few days without a class, I start to feel restless and anxious, like I have all this pent-up energy that needs somewhere to go. Yoga is the best outlet for that energy, and I always leave class feeling more grounded and balanced.

How often do you attend classes? Favorite class?
I try to attend class at least four times a week. A classic Vinyasa Flow will always have my heart, but you can also usually find me at Tuesday night’s Core Flow with Lexie or one of the Friday Power Flow classes!

I especially enjoy Kaylin H.F.’s classes because it’s clear she designs thoughtful and intentional sequencing and does an excellent job cueing each pose.

Please feel free to share any other thoughts you have about Dfly, hot yoga, or your life as we would love to know more about you.
Growing up, I never really enjoyed traditional forms of challenging exercise. I’ve always been more of a “go for a hike” kind of girl. It wasn’t until I started doing yoga that I discovered a form of movement I genuinely enjoyed, something that challenged me, connected me to my body, and calmed my nervous system.

That love of yoga has inspired me to try some of Dragonfly’s other class offerings and start a regular weightlifting routine at my local gym, which is something I never would have imagined doing a few years ago. I’m also hoping to begin my 200-hour yoga teacher training later this year to deepen my practice and continue learning. Yoga has truly transformed my life for the better, and I’m so grateful to have found a community in Dragonfly.
