Jim M. | Dragonfly Hot Yoga Madison WI

How did you get started at Dfly?
The story is a little complicated. Back in the early 2010s I was already taking yoga classes at Harbor health club when Dragonfly Middleton opened across Junction Road from my office. I took some Dragonfly classes then but I continued with my health club classes because it was cheaper and more convenient. Then, last year, upon my retirement, I had to change health insurance and health clubs. So I found myself in a health club without a yoga community. Since I had enjoyed Dragonfly classes before I just resumed taking classes here again.

What was your yoga/barre experience before Dfly?
I initially got into yoga through Harbor health club’s Les Mills’ “Body Balance” classes about 2010. I soon moved on from those to “real” (Vinyasa flow) yoga classes. And then on to hot yoga classes when Harbor opened a hot yoga studio.

What do you enjoy most from attending Dfly classes?
I practice yoga because I enjoy how it corrects my little aches and pains and improves my total well-being. I practice yoga here at Dragonfly because I especially enjoy practicing my yoga when I can do it in this community of people who have great attitudes about, and gratitude for, their own health and wellness.

Have you experienced any changes in your total well-being since taking classes?
I experience improvement in my total well-being after every class! It is not as pronounced as it was when I first started practicing yoga, but I definitely still feel better for hours after almost every class. More seriously, I am 68 years old now and I have fewer musculoskeletal complaints (none) than anyone else I know near my age. And, unlike some of them, I’m still using all my original parts.

How often do you attend classes? Favorite class?
Usually I take 3 flow classes per week (Flow, Power Flow, or Core Flow). I wouldn’t say that I have a favorite class. Actually what I like best is the consistent quality that I experience in all the flow classes no matter who is teaching them. I really admire the quality control that Director of Instruction Tiffany G manages to promote across all the classes, no matter who is teaching them.

Please feel free to share any other thoughts you have about Dfly, hot yoga, or your life as we would love to know more about you.
As you get older, it is a good idea to exercise your fitness today – just so that you can do so again tomorrow. Or to put it another way, and paraphrase Madison golfer and fitness guru George Vitense, you don’t stop practicing yoga (or golf) because you get old; you get old because you stop practicing yoga (or golf).

Instructor Sveta B. : “Jim is such a dedicated yogi! Not only does he consistently practice at Dragonfly, he also took a deep dive into his journey by completing a 50-hour yoga foundations teacher training right here at the studio. Jim is always one of the first to arrive, already settling onto his mat and getting prepped before the class begins. His open smile and calm, grounded energy light up the studio, and it’s clear how much he loves being part of the Dragonfly community.”
