I started practicing yoga about 25 years ago after accidentally misreading the time for a class I planned to take at a gym. I thought I was attending a cardio kick-boxing class and instead walked into a calm, quiet room with soft music playing. I stayed for the class and really enjoyed the difference compared to the loud and very active classes I usually attended. After this I started to explore different types of yoga. While living in Washington DC, a friend of mine asked me to join her at a bikram studio and that was fantastic! After attending for a few years, I found hot yoga in all forms to have value for my health as well as in my endurance athletic endeavors.
My experience at Dfly started after we moved to Fitchburg and the studio was the closest to our home. I’ve been practicing at Dfly for about 10 years, and it has been a wonderful place to explore many options that have value in my overall health. I am a registered dietitian and certified diabetes care and education specialist (RD, CDCES) and I also live with type 1 diabetes myself. I specialize in working with people with type 1 who are athletes, pregnancy with type 1 as well as overall women’s health. The best way to show people that something is possible is to walk-the-walk. I can’t expect those I educate to make health a priority if I don’t set a good example.
It takes a lot of discipline to prioritize time for myself with a busy career and family. I have found considerable value in the early morning classes. This is MY time of the day when I can really think about my day and give myself the room to do something good for myself. I come to class about 4-5 times per week and love the 5:30/5:45 flow classes as well as the Yoga Up. I love the Fire Fusion 75 class and wish I could attend more often!
Dfly is a very important part of my physical and mental health and helps me to also set an example for my kids about the value of self-care. It is a welcoming space that always has a friendly instructor who is very willing to answer questions and help you move forward in your practice. I plan to continue practicing here for many years to come!
Instructor Jen R.: “I always enjoy when Jennifer’s in one of my classes. But I also enjoy practicing right alongside her too! Her consistency speaks volumes. She shows up, week after week, whether it’s an early morning vinyasa or a challenging HIIT class—and she brings the same focused energy and genuine smile each time. What I most admire is how she balances that focus with a playful spirit, and how she takes time after class to connect with others in our studio community.”
