How did you get started at Dfly?
I started practicing yoga at the beginning of 2023 at a different studio because I was living up north of Madison and Dragonfly didn’t have a location near me. In early 2024, I moved to Verona and decided to join Dragonfly because the brand was so visually appealing, and the class variety really drew me in. And the coolest thing is that my house has an equal distance to 3 studios: Middleton, Fitchburg, and Verona studios, so having all those options felt perfect.
What was your yoga/barre experience before Dfly?
Before Dragonfly, I had about a year of yoga experience. I’ve never tried barre, but it’s on my list. I want to push myself outside my comfort zone more. One of my New Year’s resolutions is to be braver and try things that feel physically challenging so I can build strength and confidence.
What do you enjoy most from attending Dfly classes?
I love that Dragonfly gives instructors the creative freedom to design their classes. Every teacher brings something unique, so no two classes feel exactly the same. Some instructors experiment and switch things up often, which I really enjoy, but I also appreciate instructors who keep things consistent when I’m craving stability.
The variety keeps yoga fun and engaging for me. I also love the little instructor personalities that come through like the Swifties instructors who would play Taylor Swift music in class. As a big Swiftie myself, that always makes me smile.
Have you experienced any changes in your total well-being since taking classes?
Absolutely. Yoga has become such a core part of my self-journey: self-discovery, self-care, and reclaiming my sense of self. For so long, I was caught in the “yang” of life…always on the go, always producing, never stopping. I didn’t realize how much of myself I had lost until I started practicing regularly.
Yoga gives me a safe space to slow down, reconnect with my body, and rebalance my nervous system after work (plus, an opportunity to doze off during the day, lol as I tend to fall asleep after a long day of work in Yin classes). It helps me feel less burnt out, less overstimulated, and more grounded.
How often do you attend classes? Favorite class?
I usually aim for about three classes a week. I was very consistent until recently when my cat got sick, which has taken a lot of my time and emotional energy. But I still try to come whenever I can, because it helps me stay centered.
My favorite classes are yin and slow flow. I love taking classes with Tammy; she’s so creative and always brings something new, which keeps things exciting. And I adore Fran’s aroma yin classes. She has such a calm, grounding presence, and her classes feel like a safe zone for me.
Please feel free to share any other thoughts you have about Dfly, hot yoga, or your life as we would love to know more about you.
One thing I truly appreciate about Dragonfly is the sense of community. I moved from Thailand five years ago, and building a social circle as an adult in a new country has been hard. Even though I haven’t made close friends yet, I’m starting to feel that sense of belonging here that I didn’t feel at my previous studio. I notice the small acts of kindness like people grabbing bolsters for others, instructors being thoughtful and accommodating, the friendly staff. I also love the seasonal challenges as they motivate me a lot because I’m very competitive hahaha. Outside yoga, I’m really into pottery right now and lots of artsy, crafty things. I have four cats who are my world and often inspire my art. I’m also a big foodie. I love exploring new restaurants, trying different cuisines, and traveling to places with great food and museums.Overall, I’m excited to continue my journey with Dragonfly Hot Yoga, trying new classes, exploring new parts of myself, and growing both mentally and physically.
Instructor Tammy H.: “Mimi’s practice carries a quiet wisdom—steady, reflective, and full of grace. She shows how yoga can become a sanctuary when we allow ourselves to soften and listen.”
