Samantha W. | Dragonfly Hot Yoga Madison WI

Samantha W.

How did you get started at Dfly?
I joined Dragonfly when I was in graduate school in 2017-ish. Dfly carried me through until I graduated in 2018 and moved away for post-graduate training. When I moved back to Madison in 2024, I was back in Dragonfly as soon as I could. It was like I never left.

What was your yoga/barre experience before Dfly?
I took a yoga class here and there but I usually left feeling nauseous or overwhelmed or defeated. I didn’t feel terribly connected to yoga, but I enjoyed the movement enough that when a friend encouraged me to try Dragonfly, I was up for it.

What do you enjoy most from attending Dfly classes?
I appreciate that Dragonfly takes me as I am that day. Some classes, I’m really in my head and am there to work out. Sometimes, I’m feeling more rooted and am willing to open up my thoughts to whatever arises. I’ve walked into class angry, elated, really sad, frustrated, feeling strong, feeling weak. The classes and instructors at Dragonfly are ready for me, every time.

Have you experienced any changes in your total well-being since taking classes?
Yoga classes at Dragonfly are the only consistent, intentional movement that I’ve stuck with for multiple years, which gives me a sense of empowerment and self-ownership that I carry into other areas of my life. I’m physically stronger and more mentally flexible – invaluable advantages when wrangling my kids and managing a team at my job. I also hear my yoga teachers saying “can you relax your shoulders away from your ears and unclench your jaws?” in my head throughout the day and I can’t explain how much those small habits help me regulate.

How often do you attend classes? Favorite class?
I go to class 3-5 times a week. If you haven’t taken a morning Flow class with Suki, do yourself a favor and sign up. Then sign up again because that first class will kick your butt and you might think “no thank you”. Just keep coming back. We’ll be there!

Please feel free to share any other thoughts you have about Dfly, hot yoga, or your life as we would love to know more about you.
If you’re reading this page as you explore the website, deciding if you’re going to take a class – just do it. Dragonfly really and truly is for all bodies and walks of life and states of mind. We all need a little connection these days; you’ll find it here.

Instructor Suki W.: “It is a pleasure to have Sam in class. Sam consistently brings a wise, confident and dedicated presence. The thing about our Dfly’s clients is that many of them are super smart…and Sam is definitely one of them! Thank you Sam for taking the time to share your story and practice with me and our community.”
