Hannah Schulz | Dragonfly Hot Yoga Madison WI

Hannah Schulz

How did you get started at Dfly?
I started at Dragonfly in summer 2018. My good friend, Emily, was a member and she invited me for Ashley’s Sunday morning Yoga Up at Middleton. Despite slipping and sliding all over my mat, I loved it and was hooked! Emily and I carpooled to classes and held each other accountable!

What was your yoga or barre experience before Dfly?
I was active taking strength and HIIT classes at the UW NAT. I had taken a few power flows in my hometown, but I never formally practiced yoga or barre prior to Dragonfly.

What do you enjoy most from attending Dfly classes?
I consider Dragonfly my safe place. When I joined, I was in the middle of pharmacy school. I gravitated towards the Up classes to keep my mind occupied only on what I was doing physically in the class instead of all the stress from school. Now in my second year of residency, I continue to lean into this workout routine to reduce stress, stay grounded, experience physical release from sitting all day, and as a commitment to myself. When I am taking a class, I feel like no other demands in the world can reach me. I am intentionally focused on the present and I can attend to everything else later. Dragonfly is one of the things that has remained consistent for me through the years whether it was a retreat after an exam or coming during an evening with no other plans – just always reliably there through different seasons of life.

Have you experienced any changes in your total well-being since taking classes?
I feel the strongest and most flexible I have been thus far in life. I have also noticed much improvement in my balance and endurance. When I sparingly take workout classes outside of Dragonfly, I feel very physically equipped and strong, which I believe is due to the well-rounded training in the Up classes.

How often do you attend classes? Favorite class?
Generally, I take Yoga Up or Power Up 4 times weekly. I wish my work schedule allowed me to participate in Circuit Up! I used to take it weekly before COVID. My favorite class is Yoga Up taught by Laura or Nassim! I always say I am going to do more pure yoga classes but somehow always end up in an Up class!

Please feel free to share any other thoughts you have about Dfly, hot yoga, or your life as we would love to know more about you.
The heat, class format, instructors, and beautiful spaces are why Dragonfly is the best workout studio in Madison! The instructors are motivating, challenging, and never judgmental. I have met so many lovely and vibrant people – both fellow students and instructors! I feel grateful daily to be part of Dragonfly’s community and experience the blessing of a warmed workout class.

Instructor Laura G: “Hannah is a fitness class queen. She has a strong and consistent practice, whether she is attending Barre, YogaUp, or PowerUp. She has incredible technique and rocks through tough classes with grace. Congrats to Hannah, the downtown yogi of the month!”
