Downtown Yogi of the Month: Lauren Brischke | Dragonfly Hot Yoga Madison WI

Downtown Yogi of the Month: Lauren Brischke

My friend, Brooklyn, inspired me to try Dfly. We were at the dog park with another friend, Maddie, and we all decided to go together. I did an intro month and after just a few classes, I was hooked. I’ve been practicing regularly for a couple years now. Time sure FLY’s when you are having fun!

I had no yoga/BarreAmped experience before Dfly. This was the first I’d heard of it and I also never really had a consistent fitness routine before. I’d occasionally go running but that was about it. That changed once I started taking classes and now hot yoga is part of my routine most days of the week – it’s really turned into a lifestyle. Hot yoga is going to be a part of my life for many years to come, and I am so glad to have started this journey at Dfly!

What I enjoy most is the Dfly community that I’ve joined. There is always such great energy and enthusiasm between people at Dfly, and a genuine effort to connect with and support each other. It really does feel like a Fly “family”. It has been such a meaningful experience beyond just working out; a catalyst for growth in my life. I’m inspired by my fellow yogis and their energy is contagious. We all encourage each other to stretch beyond our comfort zones and I’m thankful to be part of this community.

Dragonfly has changed my life. Overall, I’m healthier, stronger, more confident, and it’s helped me outside the studio more than I anticipated. I have more energy day to day, and the last couple of years have brought about so much change and growth. It’s been helpful to have that constant reminder to slow down, breathe, and accept possibility; the perspective of not being afraid to fail/fall out of poses and the ways in which we are encouraged to be vulnerable; the sensation of sweating it all out and letting go of things that no longer serve you; and being constantly challenged to, as described by Brene Brown, live more whole-heartedly. I don’t think words can express how much the Dfly community means to me, but I’ll just say how grateful I am for all the friendships and experiences that have come into my life!

I do about 4-6 classes a week, mostly in the early morning before work. Classes I regularly go to throughout the week are Brooklyn’s Power Up™, Bri’s Yoga Up®, Autumn’s Yoga Up®, and I’ll also do Jorie’s Flow and Erica’s Yoga Up®/Power Up™. I don’t have a favorite because each class is unique and I get something different from all of them. The variety is my favorite – all the different formats and styles allow me to choose and adapt my practice to what each day brings, whether it’s needing to slow down and flow or Power/Yoga Up® for my day!

I’ll just share some examples of the little things that help show what makes the Dfly community so great: Before class, when you always get an energetic and warm welcome as you walk through the studio doors, even when it’s 5:30am; During class, when we share weights and high five each other and shout “woos” or words of encouragement to fellow yogis; when a fellow yogi breaks out dancing in class; when birthdays are recognized with fun balloons and more; when instructors share stories and inspirational quotes; After class, when you get a surprise shoulder or foot massage in Savasana; or forget a shower towel/hair brush/bra and someone lends you one; when Dfly shares your story as yogi of the month; outside of the studio, when you brunch or tailgate with new yogi friends. I could keep going but I’ll just say thank you to the Dfly team and my fellow yogis! I look forward to continuing to be part of this OMAZING community at Dfly. :)
