Fitchburg Yogi of the Month: Ryan Jester | Dragonfly Hot Yoga Madison WI

Fitchburg Yogi of the Month: Ryan Jester

How did you get started at Dfly?
In early 2016, my wife and I were training for the Phoenix Marathon. This was the first time that we had trained in the winter for a marathon and we had friends that suggested integrating hot yoga into our training program as a way to prepare our bodies for the difference in the Wisconsin winter training climate vs. the race climate in Phoenix. We enjoyed our intro period so much that we have continued to attend Dragonfly classes on a consistent basis ever since.

What is/was your yoga/barreamped experience before Dfly?
I started practicing Yoga in 2012 at the gym I was attending at that time. My mom had encouraged me to try it out since it has been an integral part of her life. I found yoga classes provided me with a venue for stretching and strength to keep me fresh, strong and injury-free for the higher mileages I was running as I trained for longer distance events.

What do you enjoy most from attending Dfly classes?
Classes have great instructors that provide a good workout with stretching and strength training to supplement my other physical activities. The instructors provide options for all levels and tips for improvement. Flexibility has always been a challenge for me and the hot yoga classes at Dragonfly help me work through tight spots.

Have you experienced any changes in your total well-being since taking classes?
Starting off my day with physical activity provides me with extra energy and a positive mindset for the day. Class times and class types at Dragonfly allow me to integrate classes into my workout routine, resulting in a positive and productive start to my day.

How often do you attend classes? Favorite class?
I typically attend twice a week. I’m a fan of the 5:30 am Flow class. The combination of balance/strength poses with restorative stretching provides me with just what I need to start off the day.

Instructor Sam Brenner: “Ryan is very deserving of Fitchburg YOM! His attendance at early morning flow class throughout the week shows great dedication. His practice is one of quiet perseverance and strength and is inspiring to me as an instructor as well as to other yogis. Congrats, Ryan!”
