Downtown Yogi of the Month: Alyssa Love

How did you get started at Dfly?
I started taking a few drop-in classes a few years ago, but I decided to start practicing regularly in the past year as a way to help me manage the stress of finishing up graduate school.

What is/was your yoga experience before Dfly?
I did a little bit of Bikram yoga while I was an undergraduate, but I had never tried a Vinyasa style class before Dfly.

What do you enjoy most from attending Dfly classes?
I enjoy the challenge of building strength and balance during classes—it’s always exciting when you’re able to do a new balancing pose that you previously couldn’t do. I also enjoy the meditative element at the beginning and end of classes as well.

Have you experienced any changes in your total well-being since taking classes?
Practicing yoga regularly has helped me approach stressful situations and difficult changes in my life with a more gracious mindset. The mentality with which we approach yoga classes is how I try to approach new challenges outside of class.

How often do you attend classes? Favorite class?
I attend somewhere between 3-5 classes per week. My favorite classes are Flow and Power Flow.

Please feel free to share any other thoughts you have about Dfly, hot yoga, or your life as we would love to know more about you.
Practicing yoga regularly has helped me outside of the studio far more than I would have imagined, so I would like to emphasize my gratitude for all of the instructors at Dfly that make this studio so great. The guidance I’ve received in class has really helped me to be less hard on myself and more grateful for the things I have in my life. I’ve just finished my Ph.D. in chemistry, so moving forward I will be sure to carry on practicing yoga and embracing new challenges that this next stage of life brings.

Instructor Natalie Koberstein: “Alyssa approaches her practice with careful attention to being in the moment and giving herself patience and grace in every pose. She greets everyone with a smile and brings joy with her into the studio! She is a dedicated yogi and we are so happy to have her at Dragonfly.”
