My Teaching Style

My teaching style for my yin classes is approachable, direct, and fun. I like most when a teacher is authentic and their style reflects who they are as an everyday person, so I try to be myself and hope that comes through.

What I love about teaching yoga is the fact I get to help people find things that feel really GOOD in their body. For those new to yoga, I think it can be quite challenging to figure out what works, and I love getting people to a point where they’ve found something they can do at home or wherever in life to help themselves feel better. Yoga is about listening to your body and responding to it positively, and if I can help people do that, then I feel like I've done my job.

Experience

I begrudgingly got into yoga in 2012 after one of my best friends took me to a class at Dragonfly. It wasn’t love at first practice, but I kept at it because I wanted the free t-shirt that comes with completing a 30-day challenge (I am easily motivated by free t-shirts). As time went by, I began to understand how powerful and beneficial developing a stronger mind-body connection is, and I’ve grown to really appreciate the less tangible benefits of a strong yoga practice (though don’t get me wrong, stronger shoulders and the ability to balance while putting on socks while standing up are both great).

I feel like I am more gentle with myself and others, less anxious, and am more confident than I was before I started, and I owe a large part of that to yoga. After practicing consistently and working at the Fitchburg studio for a long while, I decided to pull the trigger and do a Yoga Teacher Training with Breathe 4 Change. I'm delighted I did and am happy to be teaching.

Favorite Pose

Straddle forward fold. I can usually get my back to crack by releasing down in this pose and it feels *amazing* every single time.

Why I Love Dragonfly

Dragonfly is one of the few studios I’ve been to that really embodies the word “welcoming”. For me, someone who was really unsure about getting into yoga because I wasn't "advanced", Dragonfly's inclusivity and warmth made coming to class WAY less scary, and that's always stuck out to me. I don’t think I could’ve progressed as I have at any other studio because I would’ve felt intimidated and likely would have quit. What's more, the staff is awesome, the clients are friendly, and the studio space is always clean and lovely.

Little Known Fact About Me

I'm a Realtor with First Weber and love all things interior design.
