Downtown Yogi of the Month: Caroline Matkom | Dragonfly Hot Yoga Madison WI

Downtown Yogi of the Month: Caroline Matkom

How did you get started at Dfly?
I was struggling to find a consistent, enjoyable workout routine until my friend and fellow Dragonfly member, Anna Gustafson, encouraged me to join in January 2017!

What is/was your yoga experience before Dfly?
I was never exposed to yoga in my childhood, but started doing yoga once every 2 months for soccer training in high school. My body always felt strong and empowered during yoga, therefore I wanted to pursue yoga classes in college.

What do you enjoy most from attending Dfly classes?
I love the camaraderie of Dragonfly classes – I feel like I am on a team. I am constantly inspired and pushed by other members in the class.

Have you experienced any changes in your total well-being since taking classes?
Before Dragonfly, my workouts consisted of pushing myself to be the fastest, strongest, quickest. I constantly disappointed myself in my performance and was unsatisfied with my workouts. Since Dragonfly, I learned to love myself every day for where I am and listen to my body. Because of this mentality shift, my workouts are more enjoyable and productive.

How often do you attend classes? Favorite class?
I attend classes 5 times a week and just completed my first 30 Day Challenge (I encourage everyone to do this!). My favorite class is Power Up with Erica, which always leaves me extremely sore.

Please feel free to share any other thoughts you have about Dfly, hot yoga, or your life as we would love to know more about you.
In June I am moving to San Francisco, and one of the communities I will miss the most is my Dragonfly community. Each member and instructor is extremely kind and inspires me to be my best. I hope to find new yogis in San Francisco, but Dfly will always be home.

Instructor Natalie Koberstein: “Caroline shows up throughout the week in a variety of classes. She greets everyone around her with kindness, and in her practice displays discipline in giving in to what she needs that day. Her positive attitude and smile that reaches right up to her eyes are just a few things she contributes to our Dragonfly community!”
