Sun Prairie Yogi of the Month: Sarah Stephenson

How did you get started at Dfly?
Honestly… I don’t remember… seemed like a good idea at the time and here I still am!

What was your yoga/BarreAmped experience before Dfly?
Do yoga videos count? And that one always-smiling, religious studies teacher in college who smelled like patchouli?

What do you enjoy most from attending Dfly classes?
I enjoy the community atmosphere and the fact that Dfly is a warm and inviting place to come to (literally and figuratively)! The instructors are friendly and supportive!

Have you experienced any changes in your total well-being since taking classes?
I started Dfly in order to have a consistent, year-round, physical practice that would support my other hobbies and general well-being. It has done exactly that! The first bike ride in the Spring (or after any gap really) no longer leaves me hurting everywhere (used to really dread that!). Riding horses requires a strong core, general limberness, and a well-developed sense of body awareness. Dfly classes have supported and strengthened all of those things and enable me to be a more confident rider. And on an emotional level, the opportunity to step away from the rest of life a few times a week and just decompress is so restorative!

How often do you attend classes? Favorite class?
I generally attend 3-4 classes per week. My favorite class really depends on how I am feeling. and what I need. Mostly I like that the classes are varied enough that anything from slow flow to yoga up will give me what I need that particular week. I am patiently waiting for Barre classes to return to the Sun Prairie studio!

How did you get started at Dfly?/ What was your yoga/barreamped experience before Dfly?
I was interested in trying yoga, so I took advantage of a one-month trial promotional offer. None and in fact, I had never even heard of barre before I began at Dfly.

What do you enjoy most from attending Dfly classes?
The classes push me to work harder than I otherwise would on my own. I also enjoy the social aspect of connecting with others who attend class and talking with the instructors.

Have you experienced any changes in your total well-being since taking classes?
I’m happier and calmer when I’m able to attend classes regularly, in addition to feeling physically stronger.

How often do you attend classes? Favorite class?
I take a class 3-4 times per week, including Dfly on Demand. My favorite class is cardio barre followed by Power Up. It’s funny that I originally joined Dfly for yoga, but the classes I enjoy the most are the ones that combine cardio with strength training.

The team at Dfly is excellent. They always make me feel welcome and a part of the community. And with everything going on these days, they are always so accommodating relative to how and when I’m able to use my class passes.

Instructor Mary Leigh Flynn: “Meg is an absolute pleasure to have in barre class! As an instructor it is always exciting to have clients who really push themselves and Meg does exactly that! She is there to get a great workout and that is reflected in her form, attitude and energy. Congratulations to Meg for being chosen Yogi of the Month!

Fitchburg Yogi of the Month: Kelsey Keyes

How did you get started at Dfly?
I was starting to get bored with the same sequences of my own practice and thought it was time to learn some new styles and flows.

What was your yoga/barreamped experience before Dfly?
I have been practicing yoga off and on since I was in high school. Mentally, yoga has always been a tool that I’ve relied on when I needed a distraction or insight on an issue.

What do you enjoy most from attending Dfly classes?
All the teachers cue differently and put value on different transitions; they could all teach the same flow and it would feel completely different and engaging.

Have you experienced any changes in your total well-being since taking classes?
I have a very physical job working with dogs (which I only have gratitude for), but it has definitely taken its toll on my back. Going to class makes my body move better and feel stronger; also it help me to move my body smarter and more mindfully outside of practice.

My goal is to go twice a week. I love power flow and flow/yin and I love to go back to aroma yin when that class opens up again. Outside of yoga, I spend most of my free time with my family- 3 little boys (7, 5 and 3), husband and 3 dogs- drawing and golfing.

Instructor Jill Merfeld: “Kelsey brings such a calming energy to the classes she attends. She loves to arrive early and it always makes me smile to see her soaking up the warmth in the room while I set up. It’s even more fun to watch her practice! Thank you for sharing your energy with me and the other Dragonfly yogis!”

Downtown Yogi of the Month: Stephanie Benton

How did you get started at Dfly?
In the Fall of 2019, I had a friend who really enjoyed Dragonfly and would always try to convince me to attend classes with her, finally, I said yes and we attend a 60 minute Yoga Flow class. I knew that DragonFly was for me when one, I had an incredible experience, but two, the scented towel!! WOW! I knew I had to stay.

What was your yoga/BarreAmped experience before Dfly?
Little to none! A few free classes here and there, and I attending group led classes by RecWell through UW-Madison!

What do you enjoy most from attending Dfly classes?
I really enjoy how it makes me feel and I find the environment of Dragonfly really comfortable. I enjoy that there is a lounge available with tea, the hair ties in the bathroom, the shampoo and conditioner available in the shower! But most of all, I love the feeling of doing a really hard yoga class and getting the cool jasmine or eucalyptus scented towel! I am not the best at yoga to be completely honest, but Dragonfly has made me fall in love with the practice, and I’m even interested in becoming a yoga instructor someday!

Have you experienced any changes in your total well-being since taking classes?
Most definitely! I did yoga in Fall 2019-March 2020 and towards the end of my time in March I felt more in control of my emotions and mental health and I felt incredibly strong and capable. While it is now Fall 2021, I have been doing classes consistently again for three weeks now and just the difference in my overall strength and happiness is incredible!

How often do you attend classes? Favorite class?
I attend a class almost every day of the week! Usually, at the very least I will go to 5 classes a week. My favorite class is Yoga Up 45, though it really does kick my butt!

Since joining Dragonfly I have seen the importance of yoga and I see it as my form of self-care. This past year I spent traveling through Ecuador, Chile, and Mexico, and in every country, I went to, you can guarantee I was bringing my yoga mat on the plane with me! My yoga mat has been with me everywhere now, and I am so glad to have been introduced to yoga!
