Sun Prairie Yogi of the Month: Clare Hawthorne

I started at Dragonfly after attending another yoga studio, and feeling that I didn’t belong. At the beginning of my journey, I wore the clothes I mowed the lawn in, sometimes complete with lawn clippings hanging off me like a Christmas ornament. I was treated like the kid who didn’t wear fluro in the 80’s! This attire apparently was not “yogi ok”. Even with the cold stares that would send a penguin running for relief, I was unwilling to buy any more specialty clothing, for an activity I might give up in a few months. It looked like yoga would be a fleeting activity, like any plan to reduce the steady drip of caffeine that I pump into my body. Then I went to Dragonfly. Dragonfly was not only ok with my attire, but I was also happy to see all body shapes, and abilities welcomed with a warm hello.

Middleton Yogi of the Month: Sara Strell

I had only practiced yoga a handful of other times before finding Dfly. I explored the Middleton studio primarily because of the convenient location and the class times that fit with my schedule needs. I have always been active, but gravitated more towards running, weights, and the occasional at-home video. After both of my children were born, I was struggling to find an exercise path that met all of my needs as a new mom who also worked outside the home full-time. My mom had been practicing yoga for several years and talked about how much she enjoyed it, but it wasn’t until I joined her for a class during a girls weekend in Illinois that I really understood how impactful yoga could be for the mind, body, and spirit. The feeling of joy I got out of that first class was so inspiring that I knew I needed to find a studio back home in Madison.

Fitchburg Yogi of the Month: Sonia Montero

How did you get started at Dfly?/ What is/was your yoga/barreamped experience before Dfly?
A friend suggested it. I’ll never forget our first class was Fire!!!! Even though I had never done any yoga before that I was still hooked. I has zero experience and now looking back I don’t know how I caught on with all the poses. I was like “Warrior who?”

What do you enjoy most from attending Dfly classes?
I don’t know where to start! I love the instructors, front desk staff, and obviously the other yogis. I think I have made a few, if not a lot of new friends. It’s such a positive environment. If I am having a rough day I know I need some yoga and never regret attending!!

I started taking a few drop-in classes a few years ago, but I decided to start practicing regularly in the past year as a way to help me manage the stress of finishing up graduate school.

What is/was your yoga experience before Dfly?
I did a little bit of Bikram yoga while I was an undergraduate, but I had never tried a Vinyasa style class before Dfly.
