Sun Prairie Yogi of the Month: Amy Amessoudji

Q: How did you get started at DFly?
A: I started a year ago at DFly when I saw you in my neighborhood and attended sporadically, primarily Yin classes. I had not done any exercise for years and needed that time to meditate and activate my muscles again.

Q: What is/was your yoga/BarreAmped experience before DFly?
A: I have practiced yoga throughout my adult life with many interruptions in practice. I had never taken hot yoga classes or BarreAmped classes before, and was very intimidated by the idea (I googled what to wear and how to survive hot yoga classes when I first signed up!)! After a lot of research, I summoned the courage to jump into a Flow class.

Q: What do you enjoy most from attending Dfly classes?
A: I enjoy feeling healthy and energetic again thanks to Dfly classes. I am stronger and more peaceful – I combine classes and have enjoyed shopping in my closet for clothes that haven’t fit me in years!

Q: Have you experienced any changed in your total well-being since taking classes?
A: I have been healthier and much more focused since I started doing the 30-day challenges.

Q: How often do you attend classes? Favorite class?
A: I love so many of the classes. I especially love to combine BarreAmped with Yoga Up and follow with a Flow or Yin.

Q: Is there anything else you’d like to share?
A: In January, I signed up to go on a trip to Rwanda with my church but I was worried that I was too weak and unhealthy to do well in Africa, so I turned to Dragonfly for help. I started going to daily classes and then found out that there were 30-day challenges. It ended up really helping me form the habit of daily exercise. I was surprised that the simple act of putting a magnet up on the board would be so helpful to motivate me! When I completed the first challenge, I felt that I was still on my way to becoming healthy, so I started another one, and then a third 30-day challenge brought me straight up to the day I left for Rwanda. I was feeling healthy, strong, focused – and happy! I am so grateful to the encouraging teachers and the balance of strengthening, flexibility and mediation that is offered. That was really key for me!

Instructor Bekah Gant: “Amy exudes joyful energy not only as she practices, but in the spaces surrounding her practice. She shows up with a smile and a can-do attitude that is truly inspiring! Amy is the embodiment of the Dragonfly spirit. Congratulations, Amy!”

Middleton Yogi of the Month: Kyle Wilson

I began taking classes in January 2017. I was working out at the gym a lot and I wanted a complement to that routine. I thought yoga was a good choice because it would help me improve my balance, static strength, and flexibility.

My first experience with yoga was a class in college. More recently I watched the YouTube channel “Yoga with Adriene” and did yoga at home before joining Dragonfly. I enjoy the feeling of relaxation after class even though I had just finished a hard workout. I also find relief from anxiety/stress at class and enjoy the mental aspect.

Fitchburg Yogi of the Month: Amy Broadbridge

I have been doing yoga since I was in college, but it wasn’t until 2006 that I was introduced to hot yoga. We were living in Montana at the time, and there was a Bikram studio. After the first class, I was hooked. Not long after, I even did the Bikram Yoga 60 day challenge, 6 days a week for 10 weeks. Never in my life have I felt better than after those 10 weeks.

It turns out that I discovered hot yoga just in time, too. Beginning in the summer of 2006, and for the next six years, my body tackled two pregnancies, 9 surgeries, and breast cancer, including surgery, chemo, and radiation. I was so frustrated by all the hard work I would put in to get my body healthy again, only to be set back to square one with the healing process all over again. Hot yoga became my home base, my promise that things would get better. My body ached to get back to yoga as soon as it was allowed. As soon as I was back on my mat, I knew everything was going to be ok. After chemo took my hair, I couldn’t even wait for it to grow back before I was back in the studio, sweating with a bald head…probably the only time I have enjoyed being bald! I found a community of people in yoga, a healing environment, and a safe landing place after trauma.

Downtown Yogi of the Month: John Clancy

Q: How did you get started at Dfly?
A: I started at Dragonfly by taking Autumn’s $5 drop in flow on Saturdays.

Q: What is/was your yoga experience before Dfly?
A: I started yoga about 10 years ago after I double tore my Achilles, had a bunch of surgeries, and was feeling like an eighty year old. I immediately loved the effects of yoga on my body (regained my strength and flexibility).
