My good friend, Susan, invited me to my first class at Dragonfly back in March of this year. I am so thankful she encouraged me. Susan continues to be a great motivator for me, as do the other friends and co-workers with whom I attend classes.
Going into my first class at Dragonfly, I understood some of the basic poses of yoga but had not practiced regularly. My yoga experience was very minimal and I had not been to a class in years and had never attended regularly.
I live in the neighborhood, so you can imagine my excitement when I saw that Dragonfly Hot Yoga was opening soon and within walking distance from my home. Prior to Dragonfly, I had taken a few yoga classes near work as a lunchtime experience, but sometimes found it hard to make the time. Yoga classes at Dragonfly are amazing because the people and the atmosphere are warm and inviting.
With every class, my body loosens up more and my mind relaxes. I know we all get a little annoyed or angry when something doesn’t go our way, whether it’s spilling a cup of coffee or a piece of tech breaks unexpectedly. With my yoga practice, I find myself overcoming each obstacle with calmness and serene thought.
I first came to Dragonfly Hot Yoga with a friend in January 2013. I have some anxiety issues so attending group classes can be trying for me, but in my first class at Dragonfly, the teacher immediately made me feel welcome and after class made sure that all my questions were answered. A month later, I took a Yoga Basics Workshop and from there my participation gradually increased to where I am today. I had taken an introductory class at another studio several years before but it just didn’t feel like it was the place for me.
Since I moved to Madison a year ago, I had been looking for an accessible yoga studio where I could develop my yoga practice with mindfulness. When Downtown Dragonfly opened early in July, I found the place I was looking for!
I started with Bikram Yoga 4 years ago and immediately loved the practice in high temperatures. In May 2014 I did my teacher training in Vinyasa Krama Yoga, but after that I lost my regular practice. In the time I have spent at Dragonfly, I have been getting my practice back and I’m so grateful for that.
