Dragonfly Hot Yoga is proud to welcome Amy Sanborn as our newest teacher. The creator of Skinny Jeans Fitness, Amy will lead Dragonfly Power, a 45 minute high intensity class suitable for men and women of all fitness levels who want to incinerate fat at an incredible rate while building lean, functional and aesthetic muscle. In any given session, you’ll experience a combination of standard resistance training, calisthenics, body-weight training and plyometrics in one integrated high intensity, heart pounding interval training session. The music and occasional flash mob makes class fast paced and fun. Bring your mat, water, 8 – 15 lb dumbbells if you have them and join the party! This is a wonderful compliment to your yoga practice and a great companion to Dragonfly Fit as well! We chatted with Amy about the success of Skinny Jeans Fitness.
Dragonfly Hot Yoga: What inspired the creation of Skinny Jeans?
Amy Sanborn: For years as a personal trainer, I observed that many people were made to feel that they must choose between being fit or enjoying life. For lack of better words, that made me really sad because I saw first hand how defeating it was for people. In Skinny Jeans, we know that getting in great shape is tough work but we know it can also be really fun (and I really mean that). We train hard and laugh harder! We are all about getting in great shape, eating clean (most of the time) and enjoying life. It is also important for everyone to know that “skinny” is a feeling and an attitude not a certain look.
DHY: How would you say Dragonfly Power complements our other yoga classes at Dragonfly Hot Yoga?
AS: Dragonfly Power is a high intensity cardio and strength workout delivered in a :45 minute format. We are looking to give each individual a near capacity, maximum calorie burn workout. It is not a yoga class (think boot camp meets flash mob) and as such complements all Dragonfly yoga classes. Additionally, Dragonfly Power, along with Dragonfly Fit gives individuals the ability to meet all their training needs right here at Dragonfly (no need for a gym membership elsewhere). I don’t know any yoga studio that has this type of versatility in it’s offerings. I feel blessed and lucky for the opportunity to create a class specifically designed for Dragonfly.
DHY: How did you find out about Dragonfly Hot Yoga and what kept you coming?
AS: I heard about Dragonfly from my friend, Dan Bertler of Supreme Structures, who built the studio. Dan told me that Megan created a beautiful studio that welcomed everyone of every shape and physical ability. He told me I would be very impressed with Megan from the first time I met her (he was right). I am a personal trainer, coach, runner and triathlete, but I’ve always been intimidated by yoga (I could barely touch my toes). Dan told me that at Dragonfly I would be welcomed even as a beginner. My very first class was Fire with Natalie. It was incredibly challenging both mentally and physically for me. I felt an incredible sense of accomplishment having made it though the class and left the studio completely hooked. I am running faster and training harder thanks to Dragonfly hot yoga. I’ve unlocked parts of my body I had no idea were not working properly for me until I felt the difference a yoga practice makes!
